about
Following the success of his debut EP ‘Space Arcade’, a vinyl sell-out released on Manchester label ‘Sprechen’ and featured in Piccadilly Records’ end of year review, Psychederek returns with a self-released, summer-ready single ‘Vitamin D’. Written during the lockdown of 2020, the track turns inward, poking fun at the effects of being housebound for long periods of time.
Lead by a lazy, chugging acoustic guitar, ‘Vitamin D’ quickly snaps into gear with an up-front vocal line reminiscent of Damon Albarn’s early work. Electronic moments weave in and out, backed by drifting harmonies, while the core riff remains resolute. Finely tuned with delay and tremolo, this 6-note guitar phrase creates the perfect bed of psychedelia for Psychederek’s northern tones to sit atop. The chorus layers up with synth pads and distorted guitars, while lifting the track with an inescapable hook “girl, I just need a friend” ready-made for dancefloors and airwaves alike. Winding down with one final refrain of the chorus, the signature blend of indie and electronica fades out as confidently as it began.
“Vitamin D” is available for purchase and free streaming on all digital platforms from Friday 22nd July.
lyrics
It's been way too long since the morning sun
And now you've got me thinking that theres things I should've done
All in all I've done nothing wrong
I feel like I'm one of them
It's been mentioned to me to spend more time on my feet
10,000 steps a day is what they say
But all I know is to pick up the phone
Keep scrolling till my problems go away
Girl, I just need a friend
Someone who'll come and sit beside me again
Don't you feel bad?
The only thing I'm able to do is sit around
Nowadays people lack in Vitamin D
Just swallow the pill and there's nothing wrong with me
I feel the sunlight shining from within
I feel like I'm one of them
Girl, I just need a friend
Someone who'll come and sit beside me again
Don't you feel bad?
The only thing I'm able to do is sit around
I feel like I'm one of them
I feel like I'm one of them
